Each day, volunteers sort and stock food, help clients, and assist with general upkeep. If you would like to join our growing team, call us at 608-782-6003 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can watch a video here highlighting why two families volunteer.
“I volunteer because ‘there but for the grace of God go I’. I don’t ever want to forget that. The only reason I’m not in their shoes is by God’s grace so I try to bring dignity and a smile to the faces of those who have fallen on hard times. I’ve been blessed beyond measure with abundant time, good health, and financial security and I believe it’s God’s intention that I share those blessings. But let’s be honest, it also makes me feel good. It’s a few hours a month out of my schedule, yet the happiness I feel for helping someone lasts forever.”
Some volunteers help out weekly, some monthly, and some with special events. Everyone of every age is invited to volunteer, but children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers help during our client hours: 9:30 am-1:00 pm Monday through Friday and 3:30 pm -8:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Advance training is not necessary, so come and join us!
We welcome civic groups to volunteer! Please call WAFER at least two weeks in advance so that we can assure spots for all volunteers.
If you need to volunteer for community service or housing hours WAFER will supply a print-out of your hours and mail or fax them as needed. Volunteers are responsible for signing in and out so that hours can be recorded. Housing hours are submitted monthly as required by that agency. Ten volunteers work each shift, so community service volunteers should sign up in advance. If a shift is full, volunteers must choose a different time.
Bring canned food or your garden produce donations to WAFER, 403 Causeway Blvd in La Crosse during business hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 12:45 pm and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 pm to 7:45 pm. Receipts will be issued to you upon request.
